Publication Ethics

Khazanah Pendidikan Islam (KPI), e-ISSN 2715-968X, is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.

KPI is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement defines the responsibilities and ethical standards expected of authors, editors, reviewers, the publisher, and other parties involved in the publication process.

The journal follows the principles and good practices promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies appropriate procedures when allegations of research or publication misconduct arise.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently on the basis of the academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and contribution of a manuscript. Editorial decisions shall not be influenced by commercial interests, advertising, institutional affiliations, political considerations, personal relationships, or other non-academic factors.

1. Publication Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief and editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the academic merit and relevance of submitted manuscripts.

Editors may consult reviewers, members of the Editorial Board, or other experts when making editorial decisions. Manuscripts may be rejected when they do not meet the journal's scope, quality standards, ethical requirements, or publication criteria.

Editorial decisions must be made fairly and without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality, citizenship, political affiliation, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

  • Evaluate manuscripts based on academic quality, relevance, originality, and methodological rigor.
  • Ensure that manuscripts are handled fairly and confidentially.
  • Assign manuscripts to appropriate reviewers with relevant expertise.
  • Manage conflicts of interest involving editors, reviewers, and authors.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the peer-review process.
  • Respond appropriately to allegations of research or publication misconduct.
  • Issue corrections, retractions, or other appropriate post-publication notices when necessary.
  • Maintain editorial independence from commercial and other external interests.

3. Fairness and Non-Discrimination

Editors and reviewers shall evaluate manuscripts according to their scholarly content and contribution. No manuscript shall receive preferential or unfavorable treatment because of the author's race, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, institutional affiliation, political philosophy, or other personal characteristics.

4. Confidentiality

Editors, editorial staff, and reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts and associated information as confidential. Manuscript information may only be disclosed to individuals directly involved in the editorial and peer-review process or when disclosure is required by applicable law or legitimate editorial procedures.

Editors and reviewers must not use unpublished information, data, arguments, or ideas obtained through the review process for personal or professional advantage without the author's permission.

5. Peer Review Ethics

KPI applies a peer-review process designed to provide an independent assessment of the academic quality of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments.
  • Assess manuscripts within their area of expertise.
  • Maintain confidentiality throughout the review process.
  • Identify relevant published work that has not been appropriately cited.
  • Inform the editor of suspected plagiarism, duplication, fabrication, falsification, or other misconduct.
  • Declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest.
  • Decline the assignment when they are unable to provide an impartial review or cannot complete it within the required timeframe.

6. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts submitted to KPI are original, accurate, ethically conducted, and appropriately reported.

  • Present research findings accurately and transparently.
  • Provide sufficient methodological information to support evaluation and, where appropriate, reproducibility.
  • Ensure that the manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
  • Submit a manuscript to only one journal at a time.
  • Provide appropriate citations and acknowledge the work of other researchers.
  • Disclose relevant funding sources and conflicts of interest.
  • Obtain appropriate ethical approval and informed consent where required by the nature of the research.
  • Cooperate with editorial investigations concerning suspected errors or misconduct.
  • Promptly notify the journal when a significant error is discovered in a published article.

7. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the research, data acquisition, analysis or interpretation, or other substantive scholarly aspects of the work.

All listed authors must have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission and publication. Individuals who have contributed to the research but do not meet authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged.

Changes to authorship after submission or acceptance must be justified and approved by all affected authors and the journal editor.

8. Plagiarism and Publication Misconduct

KPI does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct. Manuscripts may be screened for plagiarism or substantial textual similarity during the editorial process.

Publication misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism and unattributed use of another person's work.
  • Fabrication or falsification of research data.
  • Manipulation or inappropriate presentation of research results.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Inappropriate citation practices or citation manipulation.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Improper authorship or ghost/gift authorship.
  • Submission of substantially overlapping manuscripts to multiple journals.

Allegations of misconduct will be assessed by the editorial team and handled according to appropriate publication-ethics procedures.

9. Originality and Duplicate Publication

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and are not under consideration by another journal. Previously published material must be properly acknowledged and disclosed to the editor where relevant.

Manuscripts containing substantial overlap with previously published or simultaneously submitted work may be rejected or investigated.

10. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members must disclose any financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other relationships that could influence, or could reasonably be perceived to influence, their judgment.

Editors may reassign a manuscript or take other appropriate measures when a conflict of interest is identified.

11. Data Availability and Research Transparency

Authors are expected to maintain appropriate research data and supporting materials. Where ethically and legally permissible, authors are encouraged to make relevant data or materials available to support verification and reproducibility of the research.

Authors may be asked by the editor to provide underlying data, analytical procedures, instruments, or other supporting information when necessary to assess the integrity of the research.

12. Research Ethics and Ethical Oversight

Authors are responsible for ensuring that research involving human participants, personal data, vulnerable populations, or other ethically sensitive subjects complies with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements.

Where required, authors should provide information regarding ethical approval, informed consent, permissions, or other relevant ethical safeguards.

13. Intellectual Property and Copyright

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others. All sources, quotations, figures, tables, datasets, and other materials obtained from third parties must be appropriately cited and used in accordance with applicable permissions and licensing requirements.

Copyright and licensing arrangements applicable to published articles are governed by the journal's publishing policies.

14. Complaints and Appeals

Authors, reviewers, readers, and other parties may submit legitimate complaints concerning editorial decisions, publication procedures, ethical issues, or journal management.

Complaints and appeals will be handled fairly, confidentially, and in a timely manner. The journal may seek advice from appropriate editorial advisers or external experts when necessary.

15. Allegations of Research and Publication Misconduct

KPI takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously, whether identified before or after publication.

When credible concerns arise, the journal may request explanations or supporting documentation from authors, reviewers, editors, or relevant institutions. Where appropriate, the journal may contact the authors' affiliated institutions or other responsible bodies.

Editorial actions may include rejection of a manuscript, correction of the published record, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the seriousness and circumstances of the case.

16. Corrections, Retractions, and Post-Publication Issues

KPI is committed to maintaining an accurate and reliable scholarly record. When a significant error, ethical concern, or publication problem is identified after publication, the journal will assess the matter and take appropriate action.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may publish a correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retraction. Retractions are intended to correct the scholarly record when the reliability or integrity of a published work is seriously compromised.

Authors are expected to cooperate with the journal in correcting significant errors identified in their published work.

17. Funding and Financial Disclosure

Authors should disclose the sources of financial or institutional support received for the research. Any role of the funding organization in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or publication should be disclosed where applicable.

18. Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors may use generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies as supportive tools in manuscript preparation, provided that their use does not compromise the originality, accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, or accountability of the work.

Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including the accuracy of references, interpretation of evidence, originality, and ethical integrity of the research.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or credited with authorship. Where AI-assisted technologies have been used substantially in the preparation of the manuscript, authors should disclose the use in accordance with the journal's applicable AI policy.

Reviewers and editors must not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished material into generative AI systems or use such material for purposes outside the authorized editorial process.
