Screening for Plagiarism
Plagiarism and Similarity Screening
Plagiarism Policy
The editorial board of Khazanah Pendidikan Islam recognizes that plagiarism and inappropriate text similarity are unacceptable forms of publication misconduct. The journal therefore implements a plagiarism and similarity screening policy for manuscripts submitted for publication.
Khazanah Pendidikan Islam uses Turnitin as an originality and similarity-checking tool to identify substantial textual overlap in submitted manuscripts and, where necessary, in the final version of manuscripts prepared for publication.
A similarity index of up to 20% is generally acceptable for submitted manuscripts. However, the similarity percentage is not used as the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team may examine the sources and context of the identified similarities, including quotations, references, commonly used academic expressions, and properly attributed material.
When the similarity index exceeds 20%, the manuscript may be returned to the authors for correction and resubmission. Depending on the nature and extent of the identified overlap, the manuscript may also be subject to further editorial assessment.
Levels of Plagiarism and Editorial Actions
Minor Plagiarism
A short section of another work has been reproduced without appropriate attribution, without substantial use of the original study's data, findings, or central ideas.
Editorial Action: The authors will receive a warning and may be required to revise the affected text and provide appropriate citation to the original source.
Intermediate Plagiarism
A significant portion of another work has been reproduced without appropriate citation or attribution to the original source.
Editorial Action: The manuscript may be rejected. In serious cases, the authors may be restricted from submitting new manuscripts to the journal for a specified period determined by the editorial board.
Severe Plagiarism
A substantial portion of another publication has been reproduced, including original research results, substantial data, or central ideas, without appropriate attribution.
Editorial Action: The manuscript will be rejected. In cases involving serious publication misconduct, the authors may be restricted from submitting new manuscripts to the journal for a specified period determined by the editorial board.
Authors' Responsibility
All authors are collectively responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of their submitted manuscript. Authors are expected to ensure that all ideas, data, quotations, paraphrased material, and other contributions derived from previous publications are appropriately acknowledged and cited.
Authors should carefully review the manuscript before submission and ensure that it does not contain plagiarism, inappropriate text appropriation, duplicate publication, fabricated references, or other forms of publication misconduct.
If plagiarism or other serious publication misconduct is identified, the editorial board may apply the relevant editorial action to all authors of the manuscript.
Important Note
A similarity score is an indicator for editorial assessment and does not, by itself, establish that plagiarism has occurred. The editorial board considers the nature, source, context, and extent of the similarity before determining the appropriate editorial action.
The journal reserves the right to take further action when plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct are identified at any stage of the editorial and publication process.
